Demon Nightclub - Full Spread

I learned about millinery while taking another graduate-level course with Professor James Glavan. During this semester long course we designed, constructed, completed and presented three hats of different styles. The first hat I made- a tiered bonnet- was inspired by the fashions of the French Revolution and 18th century European standards of dress. I planned this in accordance with my senior thesis project, which examined similar periods and topics. The second hat we made was a sinamay derby-style hat. I chose red to have some cohesion within the hat collection. This process was very physical and challenging, and our class took part in a weekend intensive course with expert milliner Truly Carmichael. The final hat of the series is unfortunately not photographed yet, but is a hat constructed from a felt base, with red grograin ribbon decorating the edge and band. Please enjoy this selection of photos whick illustrates the hat-making process to completion.
